Sumer Avila has served in escalating levels of leadership at San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) since 2010, culminating in her current position as Provost, where she is responsible for ensuring equity and integrity of the College’s educational programs.
As Provost, Sumer oversees SJVC’s regional accreditation and programmatic compliance processes and supports strategic accreditation initiatives. She ensures equity of educational programs and analyzes key data and resources to evaluate plan effectiveness. Sumer leads several key teams, including Curriculum and Assessment, Accreditation, Programmatic Compliance and Student Resolution.
Sumer’s previous roles as Campus Director and Regional Campus President provided on-the-ground experience that serve her current corporate sphere of influence.
As Vice Provost, Sumer secured Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior eligibility. As Regional Campus President, she was responsible for oversight of three campuses where she developed and implemented the Aspiring Leadership Training program.
Sumer earned her Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Organizational Development from Brandman University, along with a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Fresno. She holds Professional Clear Administrative Services and Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching credentials, along with CLAD and Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Trainer certifications.
